BMW Group has once again gathered the best-ever August global sales this year. A total of 165,431 cars were sold and delivered to customers worldwide. This is an increase of 5.7% compared to the same month in 2015. Thanks to great sales for August, the German automakers’s year-to-date sales total is 1,508,659 units sold. That’s 5.5% more compared with the same period in 2015. This is also the first time in history that BMW Group has sold over one and a half million vehicles in just the first eight months of a year.
“The BMW Group’s ongoing sales success across all our premium brands underlines the strength of our product line-up,†said Dr Ian Robertson, Member of the BMW AG Board of Management with responsibility for Sales and Marketing BMW. “Sales are increasing across the range and our electrified models are proving extremely popular – we’ve already sold more alternative drive vehicles this year than in the whole of 2015,†he continued.
Contributing to high sales are BMW’s electrified models, especially in the European market. Combined global sales of BMW i and BMW iPerformance cars total to 34,664 units delivered this year.
There was also a 10.3% increase in the sales of MINI vehicles. A total of 22,575 were delivered to customers worldwide. The MINI Clubman (36,687) and the new MINI Convertible (2,153) are the top MINI models for the August global sales. MINI sales in Asia also strengthened with a total of 59,047 vehicles delivered to customers in August (+13.8%) for the region.
However, sales of BMW and MINI in the Americas experienced a slight decrease of 4.4% in August compared to the same period in 2015. Year-to-date sales of BMW and MINI vehicles in the region also decreased by 7% for a total of 298,821 units sold. This is attributed to the more competitive market in the region.
BMW Motorrad experienced the best ever August sales with a 5.7% increase compared with the same month last year (9,238).
