[VIDEO] Cars.co.za on the BMW iX xDrive50 upgrade

To get a full picture of the BMW iX, you need to spend more than a week behind the wheel. The iX has a lot to offer in terms of design, interior space, bespoke EV chassis, electric powertrain efficiency, battery range, charging speed and practicality, to name just a few highlights. For this reason, Cars.co.za was lucky enough to be able to test drive the iX xDrive50 for a whole month.

He spent about four weeks driving and testing the BMW iX xDrive50. That’s enough time to get a good feel for what the car is like, how well it handles on the road and whether or not it succeeds as an electric vehicle. It’s hard to disagree with De Siena’s assessment of the BMW iX as a fascinating vehicle.

The xDrive50 variant has 516 hp and 564 lb-ft of torque and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. It is based on a bespoke EV architecture with considerable use of carbon fibre. But there’s plenty to complain about, too. While most enthusiasts will criticise the design, that is subjective. Instead, there are justified complaints about the lack of a front boot, the small cargo space compared to its combustion brethren and the new iDrive 8.

De Siena seems to really like the BMW iX xDrive50 overall. Its technology and its driving style. He also likes the out-of-the-box approach to design, which is usually the theme of the car. As this review shows, the BMW iX can leave a lasting impression on the right person.
