18 or 19" wheels for the track?

guys 18 or 19inch wheels for the track?

19" lose acceleration but does a bigger tire contribute to more traction?

Re: 18 or 19" wheels for the track?

on a nice smooth track like Sepang a 19" will get rid of the sidewall softness I guess.

Even then, traction is mostly based on the width of the rim and tyre, and having too much traction makes it difficult to achieve the limit making it not so fun as acupunch said. but a big fat tyre really increases the limit, making it much more difficult to achieve the limit and while your track times may be better it might not be such an educational experience since one might be below limit on fat tyres most of the time.

Of course you seem to be an accomplished driver for whom track times matter above all else. Just my 2 cents.

Being a beginner I'd like to go on track with the 17s because I don't think I can reach even close to the limit on a 18/295 or 19/295 ...

What do you mean when by "the limit"? And how will you not be able to reach it?

the limit is when adhesion is going to finish very very soon, transition from static friction to dynamic.

In a thin tyre car you can feel it very soon even at low speed. Very progressive, you know it's coming, in fact you can even slide a little bit. IN a FAT tyre car, you feel it then you suddenly lose it. Mostly because in fat tyre car, the static friction is much greater than the dynamic, so when you lose static it feels like a big loss. In thin tyre, the difference is less, so you lose it it feels more progressive.

How will I not reach it? Balls not big enough, not good enough, all that lah...
