Hi guys. It became apparent to us that after during our normal servicing report, customers are not expecting anything more than a bill. Here at R2D, we give every customer a report of their car that stipulates the "health" of their car such as battery capacity, coolant density, brake fluid dampness and the wear rate of various consumeables.

I will try and explain the various tools that we use to gauge the health status.

Battery Conductance Test. Here we use a meter to pass a small AC current through the battery and the conductance of the battery is reported along with the reserve capacity. This technique does not harm the batteries compared with traditional load testers. The meter is able to accurately extrapolate the capacity based on the conductance and initial design capacity of the battery.

Coolant Density. Using a refractometer, we are able to verify the proportion of coolant in your coolant system. Using too little coolant lowers the boiling point of the fluid while using too much reduces the heat removal properties. As such, the right proportion of coolant to water is essential to maintaining the right engine operating conditions. (lubricated water pump, resistance to corrosion, reduction of surface tension and cavitation)

Brake Fluid Dampness. All brake fluids (less Dot 5 silicone based fluid) absorb moisture from the air. When there is 1-2% of water in your brake fluid, the boiling point can lower by as much as 50 Deg C. Here we give a report on the brake fluid to accurately measure the conductance of the fluid. Pure brake fluid is an insulator.

Besides all this, we also measure the wear rates of your brakes and tires.

In R2D, we aim to provide preventive maintenance rather than reactive maintenance. Yes, reactive methods do work but this means that you may face equipment failure and this throws your schedule off by leaving you in a lurch.

By going the preventive route, you can be assured of a serviceable car. With our measurement checklist, we utilise your parts to the most before they are changed. Drawing this fine line is important.

Hi Rodney...I see that that R2D aims to provide the best of care for our rides...kudos!!! ..your valuable opinion please if a brandnew car owner sends his/her car to R2D for first servicing and thereafter would he/she be facing any potential warranty issues? Appreciate a PM on how much each service package cost vis-a-vis at the various recommended service intervals...Thanks.
