Yes, that's what my CSA told me before as far as their stance is for warranty.

Ok for BMW ipod interface kit. Once its installed, it takes the place of the CD Changer.

For the mObridge, once its installed, the CD Changer is still left in the system. However it canno't be used concurrently. Along with the mObridge there is a bypass switch. When the bypass is set. the CD Changer can be used. But, when the bypass is made, the car system has to reinitialize for the CD Changer to be recognized properly. For this to happen you need to turn off your engine and let the car go to sleep (takes ~20mins), very troublesome if you ask me. But that's how the systems work on the car.

The BMW bluetooth seems to have trouble working with Symbian phones, if you read on the other forums it seems to be a common complain. The mObridge bluetooth was able to synchronize with my Symbian Series 60 3rd edition (Nokia E61) for my address book.

Here's what I'm able to do on my symbian phone with the mObridge:

1. Dial / Accept Calls
2. Hang up
3. Scroll through my address book on my phone (I have 600 entries and its a pain)

What didn't seem to work that was shown as options on the menu of the headunit in the car was:

1. Missed Calls
2. Last 8 called
3. Top 8 called
4. Call list

The above 4 options seems to work with a iPhone when I tested it briefly.

Im my case, before committing to a deposit on something that may or may not work properly, I would prefer to get confirmation that everything works as it is supposed to.

That is probably why nobody with an idrive with sat has signed up yet.

It's a bit tricky because you will get questions about compatibility with this phone and that phone - which can be difficult when there is such a small market and demand.

Singapore Brummie, we'll update once we do it on a idrive car. i was told it should be on sat but i'm not entirely sure. anyway we'll update the results of our tests. what phone are you using ?

golfzilla, cd changer cannot be used concurrently. there is a bypass switch which you have to use. but after that they car has to be allowed to go to sleep for about 20mins before it'll recognise the new settings. Unfortunately this is how it has to be now because of how the MOST bus initializes and recognizes the rest of the components in the ring.

ok, quick update on today's test.

tested on a e93 2008 production car idrive with nav.

1. CDC cannot be left in the loop, it had to be taken off the loop entirely. after which ipod showed all the songs and stuff. Loading time for ipod playlists and songs were suprisingly quick.

2. Chinese songs showed up as blank lines on the idrive screen, from what we understand this is because the idrive unit does not contain the necessary fonts. Same problem with the bmw ipod inteface. Same on the non-idrive car with the mobridge.

3. we're still trying to figure out how to code the phone enablement for idrive units - stay tuned!

quick question for the guys with i-drive, if you can help. What options do you see in your idrive menu under "Communications" ?

Is there a "Telephone" and a "BMW Contact" ?

If there is a "Telephone" does it show you a "Please wait" with a click icon on the right when you first startup your car? Or does it say "Telephone unit not found, please contact your BMW dealer" or something to that effect?

Please help us post your findings.
