Re: Disneyland in JB...M'sia Boleh or not

Actually the government will not be making such a huge decision. It will be UEM (Khazanah), as confirmed by UEM World's MD Ahmad Pardas Senin on May 31st. "We are courting them." Disney theme will be a "crowd-puller" that will put Malaysia on the world map, his exact words.

But the news article mentioned that it was Oriental Land (of Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea) that UEM World was talking to. Wonder if the parent Walt Disney Company will give the blessings......

The Marina IR site has been awarded to Las Vegas Sands. So there will be a huge draw to Singapore in about 5-year time. Another one in Sentosa. Genting is bidding with a proposal on a theme park by Universal Studios, hence touted as a hot favourite for the Sentosa bid, especially after Capitaland/MGM and Keppel Land/Harrah's lost in the Marina bid. Panel awarding in a meritocratic manner as opposed to closer ties with quasi-GLCs. But did anyone notice that Genting was bidding for both sites?

It simply means that Genting might be ready to shift operations to Singapore, and forego that in Malaysia. Like it or not, it will not be by choice. And I bet Malaysian government will have to pre-empt that move. Huge loss of tourism revenue to Singapore on (1) Genting's moves to Singapore (2) Singapore's new attraction......

One of my many conspiracy theories......
Genting is not going to shift operations to Singapore but intend to expand.
They would not give up their monopoly in Malaysia..there would still be a substantial base of Malaysians whom would want to go to Genting with its affordable packages...the ease of recruiting rotating casino staff from a certain region in Malaysia...recruitment trust of our casino staff would be a headache here...with such a small base to employ from...very limited choice once the few black sheeps turn out their tricks to con their employers...
I was thinking they might get the Sentosa bid because of their vested interest in the cruise centre, but then plans call for a new cruise centre in Marina Bay...so...???

Malaysian Government have always wanted to pre-empt...bypass Singapore...I have close relations with Petronas and its subsidaries...and if you talk to some of their employees of which the new generation have even gone abroad to foreign universities...they are very idealistic..."We are the producers of oil,gas,ammonia,methanol...why must we let Singapore be the middleman?"
I could not tell them straight in the face why we Singaporeans are deserving...you would come off as another typical arrogant Singaporean...instead by being friendly and accomondating in beginning...then you make them see their own faults...thru our way of working...our implementation...i even went as far as showing them clips of 'Operation Flying Eagle' our tsunami ops.
The Malay way of working is very funny...you stroke their ego...make them feel they have gained their 'face'...and you can slowly get what you want even if they know they are on losing end...
This Disney talk is all on the surface so as not to 'lose face' for the politicians...look at the Edge report...what is with the "The Edge said the planned Disney theme park would be bigger than the two integrated resorts being planned in Singapore"?
It is all about Singapore bashing...
Its just too bad everytime they dun cover their asses first before shooting off their mouth and getting rebuked later on with worse consequences...

Agree with everything you said. But could Lim Kok Thay be an entrepreneur more than a Malaysian?

Dr My-heart-pain used to say " And Port Klang will be bigger than Singapore's PSA port, and our KLIA will be bigger than Changi airport"....lately also said "if I were still the PM, the bridge will be built".....kekekeke

Say good to know many hia-dee share same sentiments here. Like I ve said in beginning, I admire malaysians, but some of their top people....well.....

Re: Disneyland in JB...M'sia Boleh or not

Eh guys come on man, I mean there are some things which everyone knows but choose not to voice it out verbally and yet again there are some things which everyone talks about.

So regarding these cross strait issues I guess its best to leave the "bashing" or criticisms to a very bare minimum alright. You never know who might be reading and it could jolly well stir up bad feelings.

Anyway leave the politics for the politicians lah...

true...we juz have to live with the media reports of both sides...Malaysian side its SG bashing....Singapore side of its grossly exagerrated reports of crimes in Malaysia(frankly some of our own people are juz asking to be robbed while there, most pathetic I heard of recently though is a few NS boys being robbed in City Plaza...zzz...felt so ashamed of them)
