Growing in popularity worldwide, international drift racing D1 GP will soon be a regular feature in Malaysia with top Japanese drivers participating.

Veteran motor sports personality Kuala Lumpur-based Genji Hashimoto, president of Amprex Motor Sports Sdn Bhd and Inada Daijiro owner of D1 Corporation today launch the D1 GP(Grand Prix) Malaysia Series in the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Datuk Dr. Leo Michael Toyad.


Hashimoto said Drift car racing, popular in Japan, USA and Europe will be staged in Kuala Lumpur and several towns in the country.

Amprex Motor Sports Sdn Bhd is a Kuala Lumpur based motor racing team and motor sports event company with experience in the Japan SUPER GT Series, FIA GT, The Merdeka Motor Endurance Series(MME) while D! Corporation hold the rights of the "D1 Professional Drift Grand Prix Series"



Hashimoto said that at least five rounds of the D1 GP Malaysia Series will be held in Malaysia where leading Japanese "drifters" will compete with local "Drifters" to further promote the motor sport event in the region




Among the Japanese "Drifters" are top drivers from the Japan SUPER GT series like the "Drift King of Japan" (Dorikin)" Tsuchiya Keiichi, Manubu Orido, Nobuteru Taniguchi and the D1 GP Series 2005 Champion, Kazama Yasayuki. Tsuchiya is credited to be the pioneer in drift car racing and popularizing the sport in Japan.



Hashimoto said that prize money will be awarded to winners and sponsors are invitied for the inaugural five GP races in Malaysia from March to November. A points system will be awarded for the top three winners who will receive trophies and prize money and top three of the series have the rights to enter D1 GP event in the USA which will be held in December of this year.

On Jan 21, a preview of the D1 GP Malaysia Series will be held in Bukit Jalil Stadium carpark "A" at 5pm. Admission is FREE

Japanese Drift King "Dorikin" Tsuchiya Keiichi, 2005 Champion Kazama Yasuyuki will give an exhibition and also be the judges of the event with the owner of D1 Corporation, Inada Daijiro.

The First of the D1 GP Malaysia Series will be on March 11 in Kuala Lumpur followed by Johor Bahru on April 28, Kuala Lumpur on June 24, Penang on Aug 12 and back to Kuala Lumpur for the finals on Nov 11.
