Re: ERP rates, more gantries to go up - Road tax cut by 15% (like wah,big deal)

circular logic and arguments used. more cars = more congestion = more gantries = more $ for more roads = more capacity = more cars.

in the end, it's just more revenue in the long run.

if COE was indeed meant to control car population and for NO OTHER REASON, then a simple system of balloting (ie. lucky ones get a COE, rather than bidding) would meet the objective, without raising car ownership prices.

it all boils down to $$$.

cheers.

FYI: For those whom are considering to purchase a BMW or any car at the moment, it is highly not advisable due to the reduction in the ARF which will start sometime around March 2008.

PML will not be giving the rebate of 10% back to the customers whom are purchasing the car at this moment. I think only 5% rebate will apply at this time. Happy shopping!!!

capping coe means higher coe and lower car ownership.
LTA should consider building underground roads underneath existing roads.
it will be expensive but you can increase road tax and increase 2x the road space.
no need for erp or coe.

LTA wanna make money why dont open LTA casino or LTA bank.

Maybe telco will follow suit.

"Now the QoS of telephone network has fallen below acceptable rate. I will now increase your rate to 50/c per min during such period. This will facilitate only people necessary to use the network only." ...... but since almost everybody needs to use a phone, you are inelastic anyway, so just pay up.

What makes Raymond Lim think that having LOTS of cars on the road is not good? Perhaps the market decides as such! Perhaps people are willing to put up with the shit traffic we have AND MORE, just for the sake of having personal transport.

Whatever you wanna do, again I say, DON'T BLOODY TOUCH THE MONEY YOU GOT FROM ERP AND COE AND ROAD TAX TO SUBSIDIZE THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES!!!! LET ALL THE TRANSPORT SERVICES LIVE AND DIE BY THEMSELVES.

Bravo Centurion! Yeah! Let them rot and die by themselves. They have us drivers by the balls. No system will work so lets screw all the drivers and car-owners-to-be!!! Whichever way you see it, Sillypore is gonna be one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in, not to mention running a business. Even the ang mohs are feeling the pinch.

YOu know about boats?

There was once that every mofo had a boat to travel around. Singapore was jam-packed with boats everywhere. It was a freaked out shit situation for boats.

But once boats became unfashionable because got car, aeroplane, etc. then boats became a plaything for the rich. Economies of scale went down, so it became expensive to run a boat without fixing it yourself.

I wish the same for car. They should have such a perfect public transport system, driven by market forces, that the car will be rare. Then they will tax the hell outta the car, but give us a super class road system, raise the speed limit to 160 because so few cars left.

I will be, if I can afford it, one of the car owners in a 25 year old car. And happy.

ACS6 is correct, it is too costly here now

But remember, almost every country has the same or similar system. Road tolls are everywhere.
