How much do you care about your car's skin?

Man, I was a maniac. I even have books about automotive detailing, I even taught the polish boys how to do a good job on other people's cars. I even took money once to detail a classic maser's exterior whose owner agreed to a S$600/hour job (but I took only a couple of hundred bucks even though it took me 3 hours to do everything coz I didn't want to feel too much like a high class whore). I did my car every week, and when I took trips to KL and reached home at 11pm full of insects all over the car, I ... embarassingly ... washed my car at 11.30pm MYSELF.

Now damnit, I couldn't care less. I really don't know what happened. I suspect that I'm getting older, and the cars' exterior don't mean so much to me anymore since after all new luxobarges and sports cars now have a layer of nanopaint on it to protect it so well. I put it into the manual car wash and even an auto car wash if I'm in a rush. And I'm having about 3-5 hours more a week to read car magazines or just sleep.

What about you guys?

Re: How much do you care about your car's skin?

I like my car to be clean, having said that, I am also partial to having say the lower half of the car resprayed every year, in case of stone chips! Same as you mate, I'm not that anal about it anymore. But if it was a "toy" like my boat or a motorbike, I would take them to peices after every use just to clean it, heh

omfg. You have introduced to me a whole new perspective. You actually detail them internally!!! And respray the car!!!

Due to my previous Obsessive Compulsive disorder when it came to detailing cars, this disturbs me greatly. I am feeling stressed out just reading your post

you do that by yourself or you get the polish shop to do it for you? Auto car wash or Jack's own hand?

Re: How much do you care about your car's skin?

Used to wax 3-4 times a week with fellow forumers... Yes, u read it right.... 3-4 times a WEEK... after 6mths... my parents almost disowned me when I started sniffing Carnuba wax! HAHAHA!

Now, I can't be bothered... wash once a week or bi-monthly. Cleaning rims is top-priority though!

Re: How much do you care about your car's skin?

stone chip resprays are a must, cause i hate mud flaps and always remove them. Yes, my boat and when i had bikes, Sunday was always spent dismantling and detailing. I actually do that with my lawnmower as well, shhhhhh, i clean the air filter and say every second use, change the oil, heheh, but i also use avgas in it. So i have that OCD thing to

Re: How much do you care about your car's skin?

On my cab, I wash at least 3 times a week, wax at Zaino at least once every 2 weeks, swirl removal at S4C every 2 months.

I guess it is not a hard-&-fast rule, but due to car pride, you wanna maintain tip-top condition as often as possible. Hopefully daily. And you cannot even trust your maid......

Re: How much do you care about your car's skin?

wow. 3-4 times a week is WAY WORSE than what I did at the peak of my OCD. WOW.

My rims - because spraying water at the disc may WARP it, I sometimes put off washing my rims. So on every car except my current Honda, the rims look as if I just came out of an endurance race, with brake dust actually depositing itself on my porch. Egads... i'm a pig compared to you guys.

And yes, maid has NEVER EVER touched my car, not even now. `Boss can i clean' - NO. Don't touch. If nothing to do, please Go sleep. Go see TV. Here's the laptop, go read some newspapers from your native country. Don't touch the car.

Yes, I used to know that Zaino guy too... Chandra was it? Anybody who knows Chandra can join the nutto club.
