E61i opening ceremony...

Hi folks.

After a long wait, I finally got my E61i CE version. Here's the opening ceremony...

Nice blue corporate bag

For a big phone, the packaging is quite small. Much smaller than say an N95. Kudos!

What you see when you open the box

Contents in the box, clockwise from top left: stereo ear piece, software, E61i, 256MB micro SD, battery, manual, USB sync cable, charger, warranty card.

Front view

Left view

Right view

Top view

Bottom view

Back view

Comparison with the E61

You can see it's slightly slimmer

Nicer looking?

Main difference

The new keypad is much better to use

Insert the SIM card

Insert the battery

And it's alive

Transfer my stuff over

Will post more thoughts on it later...

.

Re: E61i opening ceremony...

Ok my thoughts on the phone, after getting the E61i yesterday night together with Andy and Adam. charged it over night. got my all my sutff transfered over (very good thing about nokia), so with all my contacts, calenders, memo to-do list in.. i was fiddling with it already.

So ok, being a first E series user.. the volume of the handset it pretty soft to me! comparing it to the N93 and N76 .. it was pretty soft, so i thought it was spoilt... silly me.. the phone is broad, as such i have to position my ear nicely, sounds better... good. Speaker volume is good.. loud and clear.

Buttons are the bomb man, i did try adam's E61 before, hated the buttons!, cause they were so stiff.. E61i is softer.. nicer feel to it. the interface alone is easy to use, don't really need to read the manual but a quick browse through would help abit.

They've got a new program called Msg Reader, what it does it that the phones reads out loud to you what the sms says, pretty cool.. tried on a couple of the sms i have stored in the phone and can more or less understand what the phone is saying, if it's abit too fast??.. you can always go to settings and slow it down a little, you also have 2 voices to choose from. Male or Female. fun thing to have or when ur driving, u can get them to read the msg out to u .

Camera is good.. nothing compared to the N95 of course but it's still something.. better than nothing.

the screen is superb.. very rich and clear.. i like it.

that's all so far i've gathered.. will post more once im more in-tuned with it .

Re: E61i opening ceremony...

Hi guys!

Got my E61i as well for 3 weeks already, didnt start a thread as expected CBS would! haha

Ok, some thoughts to share too......

The 1st thing that strikes you about this phone is the 2.8" screen, very good contrast and sharp. Camera is ok la (2 mpx only so no complains) just more of an added function I feel.

Next, I just love the aesthetics and feel of this phone! The feel is just rock solid reinforced by a very study aluminium back cover. The qwerty keypad needs some adjusting to, being a first time qwerty user I was a little disoriented coming from T9 keypad but soon got the hang of it. The buttons though quite spaced together has a rounder surface which makes it a little easier I guess.

Sizewise, you gotta get used to the broadness but I guess the slimness makes up for it....i am pretty used ot it in my jeans pocket already....

Functionswise, its really got everything - Wifi is amazingly simple to use, so far no problems browsing the net. Organiser, contacts, calender and all the standard stuff......Generally the symbian OS is pretty stable and fast, did not experience any lagging whatsoever.

Agree with Shaaz, handset volume can be better, but the speaker phone is great.

Last thing, this thing has amazing battery life, can last almost 3 days with moderate cam use, lots of sms, calls, some web browsing etc.....phenomenal....

Next up..... find time to set up my pushmail and try the VoiP function, can't wait......

Re: E61i opening ceremony...

adam,

since you've used both the e61 and e61i, would you reckon it makes any sense to upgrade from the e61 to the i?

need an upgrade.. don't like the n95. thinking of e61i, e65.. maybe e90 comm.

I prefer "Martin"... he sounds clearer.. "Ellen" abit muffled. Not bad eh, can actually pronounce quite a few words on the dot!

You might just change ur mind on the E61i bro, firstly, it's not slow.. programs start up pretty fast, even the Sync part takes less than a min. those who had a bad experince with PDA cum phones.. this WILL change your opinion abt them.

The Wifi is fast!, was surfing BMW-SG last night with it and i tell u, with all the pics loading and what not.. i did not have to wait long to see them.

N76 is a very nice phone!, limited things in it tho, not ur everday gadget phone,. no wifi and no 5mp cammie, but it sounds good, good sound system for a phone and looks good too. Depending on ur needs la bro. the N76 can sync up with ur microsoft outlook and all ur meetings etc.. so that part not a problem.

My opinion is: a big yes!

The feel of the keypad alone is worth it. This one beats the E61 in terms of interface speed and stability. It's got most things anyone will need and they all work seamlessly.

If you're really interested in the E90 communicator, I'll be getting a prototype to try very soon. Watch out for it...
