How far will you go?

In another thread, our friend CaySman said:

"I'm using this car to take long solitary drives (since my age and situation I cannot say go with `girlfriend') up to Malaysia's hill stations, driving up to Thailand's resorts, even to Myanmar's breathtaking hill stations."

Now wait a minute. We are talking about a *Porsche* here. Would you really take a Porsche into Thailand....let alone Myanmar? [Can that be done, driving by yourself?]
Frankly these days I would have to consider very carefully for a long time before taking my BMW even as far as Penang.......or even Cameron Highlands!

Re: How far will you go?

8 hours a day for 3 days is my limit so far. Been up to Thai/Myanmar border before in a Merc E-class.

My target would be Inle lake Myanmar... nice long drive up the mountains. I've driven Myanmar van from Yangon to Inle before (without GPS in the past) and feel that I can do it in my own car too.

Realised that as long as you don't stop in really dangerous areas. Myanmar north of Yangon is relatively safe. I used to be heartbroken every time I had to have my car washed by the manual car wash. Now? I haven't washed my car(s) myself for 2 years already. And if I'm gonna get robbed, I'm gonna get robbed, hopefully they won't kill me. Yes, additional insurance is required. And bring a pack of octane boosters AND quite a bit of white cloth to filter the illegal fuel in Myanmar north of Yangon.

Suipalucsea! I'm glad I set you thinking about this! You got a supercar now. Once you get it run in, you'd be dying to use it more. By that time my car must have come. Wanna go? Thailand is boring destination, let's try to make Myanmar.

The Myanmar trip was inspired by a certain John Chow (Singaporean) check this (he didn't make it to Myanmar) but for a fact I know Myanmar is even safer than Thailand: John Ewing-Chow goes to Thailand

Re: How far will you go?

I have driven from New York to San Francisco before? Does that count? Took me 3 days each way... one of the most scenic trips I have ever taken... even took Route 66... lol

Re: How far will you go?

Hi,

My furthest is from most southern part of Albert of Cananda to the north, go through cities like Lethbridge, Calgary, Edmonton, and further deep into northern terriotries.

The total drive will be around 15 hours straight, resting only for small breaks at pump stations. The drive are very scenic, but need to be extra careful with the speed, as well as the animals cross by the road, special at evening time, as they are attracted to lights.

Re: How far will you go?

Well, guys, I meant from Singapore actually!

You tempter!....but no, I think or at least hope that my wife would object to my killing myself...which is what I would do if anything happened to my precious car! By the way, I have driven in Thailand right up to the border crossing at Three Pagodas [something like that]. I think if you tried to take a Porsche across there, the border guards would pass out. Ox-carts is more like it. I was in a truck; during a plague of locusts just short of the border we had to turn on the windscreen wipers to clear away the corpses of departed grasshoppers. I don't doubt your assessment of the dangers......but I would rather go in somebody else's car!
