Re: Lee Hsien Loong freezes salary for 5 years

I am not voting. I'm disgusted to see all this bungled in the PR department.

They should have in the first place, appointed a 3rd party committee of the who's who of world HR experts, political scientists, judges, to analyse the situation to come up with a new salary package for the government, make that very public, instead of seeming to give `themselves' a salary hike.

Yes there would still be accusations, but at least it will be backed by a big long report which answers most accusations anyway.

Damn, the Singapore government really needs a good PR department. Wonder if I can apply .... especially now got higher salaries.

So what's new, guys? It looks like the same old charade - justifying an unpopular decision using some very experimental logic, then a publicity stunt, followed by "time to move on."

One thing I observe is that compared with the discussions over the casinos (oh I'm sorry, integrated resorts), the public this time seems to be saying: "Whatever, Mr. Minister, don't bother explaining yourself cos I don't wanna hear it."

The silence (relatively speaking) is pretty loud if you ask me.

Re: Lee Hsien Loong freezes salary for 5 years

Just my personal opinon. I believe it has got to do with his fate. He was cured for cancer. So hoping no relapse within for the next 5 yrs. As after the 5th year chances of getting back the disease is little to nil. So by donating his pay increament is something like JI DE (doing good deed).

cheers...

Re: Lee Hsien Loong freezes salary for 5 years

i am much more interested in strategic perspectives of how unpopular political decisions could be made palatable. paraphrasing (the dead) peter drucker, in simple prose - an effective leader is one who can make his people do something he wants them to do, yet think they want to do it themselves. so how does one convince the populace that a certain painful decision, say gst hike, is necessary for the country and citizens would end up better off overall? trying to write concisely. but my grasp of the ang moh language is letting me down. pai seh - try to tahan my rambling

i think this would make an excellent case study for a political science course. any nus dons here? add this to your curriculum ley. then share your students` answers, if possible

spot on. that`s so human. digressing a bit, that`s why the economy and the financial markets are cyclical

absolutely. nkf is the tinderbox. enormous political risk if people were to perceive nkf as a microcosm. i am thoroughly intrigued with how they deal with the aftermath. can learn lots here

good point. the godhood granted should more than make up for any pay disparity. a neuro surgeon may command $x millions more but he does not have fleets of flunkeys at his beck and call. beyond a certain level of remuneration, it`s all about self-actualization. so professionals get numb - something else have to start their engines in the morning. purely hypothetical yah - me din do any scientific studies

yeah, there is a multiplier to the gst hike. nominal 2% added but kopi goes up 5 cents on the dollar

but you would expect them to get better at the art of selling these measures. going by the results in the last election, they would be compelled to hone their strategies. dat`s what makes it exciting to see how things pan out in the medium term
