Softtop to Malaysia

Thinking of taking my cab to cameron highlands for a few days over Christmas.
Usual concerns of security/vandalism/chio-chiok by corrupt TP.
Any comments or experiences to share?
Cheers

Re: Softtop to Malaysia

Hi HC

Do park your cabrio in the carparks of luxury hotels to minimize risks of vandalism or theft. Try not to attract too much attention if possible.

When I drove my former Z3 back to my hometown with the BMWSG forumers a few years ago, nothing bad happened.

The idea of driving a topless car in Camerons is quite nice. Have fun.

Re: Softtop to Malaysia

well.... i really understand ur concerns at this point...

just to rest assure u tat i made it thru to KL twice oredi n nothing bad happened... valet parked it at the hotel n tipped the guy RM10 extra each time... took taxi when i commuted within KL instead. am heading up again really soon too!

just drive the car up.... enjoy the ride... valet park... as for in Cameroon or Genting... would suggest to let them valet at the open air carpark instead preferably in front of the hotel.

*TIP them... n take back the keys if possible.

good luck n enjoy urself k !

Re: Softtop to Malaysia

yup.. valet park should be ok... and just leave the car in the hotel and move around on foot or by taxi, van etc. I never drive around malaysia town roads when I am travelling..

On the N-S, if in doubt, dont stop. Just let them smell your quad pipes!

Have fun!

Re: Softtop to Malaysia

I agree to tip use valet n tip the guy MYRT$10 as yr car's 'security gaurd'. Else, as far as TP is concerned, need not worry too much(just refer to my new signature)

Re: Softtop to Malaysia

letting them smell ur quad pipes is onething... but dun go stirring n tailgating or gunning at anyone... especially the local cars there... be humble... let the "suppED-up" local cars pass... even when ur cruishing at 180km/h on the fast lane... IMO

just drive at ur pace... enjoy the ride... go for the occasional adrenaline rush of going above 200km/h.... but... at ur own pace.... not others

yes... like ah Beng said... be prepared for the RM50 tip... no point just going at 110-120km/h the whole trip rite?!!! hahaha

enjoy!

what i meant was if he meets some rogue driver or fake TP , and he got wife and kids in the car, and they gesture him to stop.... if in doubt, dont stop... quad pipes will come in useful..

well, we dont disturb local drivers, but if they disturb us, then we let them pass.. right?

I never look for trouble on the N-S... even when they let me pass, sometimes I raise my hands just to acknowledge... but occasionally, especially if you are driving a fast singapore car, some protons or SUVs or mercedes station wagons or lexus RX300 will come hunting for you..

then of course, with wife and kids, better to give way.. but if in a convoy then.. also better to give way..

haha

thats my politically very correct answer.

how I miss those m'sian mercedes station wagon and SUV days...

keke

very good point there by SM...if in doubt do not stop and make those quad pipes come in useful...

also try not to stop for stranded vehicles people on the roadside...the PLUS toll highway people will help them out...some of these 'stranded' cases have turned out to be robbers in ambush...

just let those souped up local cars pass...everyone knows how to step on the accelerator...but many can't keep their cars in control...

also its good for these souped up cars to poke the opposite end of the spectrum...the bloody kancils or saga/wiras with penguins or some mama driving em...road hogging...refusing to go into inner lane at 80/90km/h ...

Re: Softtop to Malaysia

Thanks to everybody for the good advices given.
I think I will just take it up and enjoy the ride, after all what's the use of buying our cars just to putz around at 80-90km/h on our roads right?
BTW thinking of staying at the cameron highlands resort..any experiences there?
