possibilities

a. download from garmin or google online the original program for this model

b. look for garmin store/support locally (funan or sim lim?) to reflash this model/unit to original program or newer program with more functions

c. get help from PML (hopefully they don't charge an arm and a leg) -> act blur la ... said don't what happen you tried reboot few times and then this unit go haywire and now no postal code search !!! .... kekeke

PML ppl got no brains. I think I know more abt the Garmin unit than them! I took back the Garmin after 4 days cos they can't solve it and am liaising with Garmin Taiwan on my own. This level of technical expertise also can be SA..... Heard that the software for this nuvi 710 is unique to BMW.

I was wrong and made such a BIG mistake...

I just cannot get down to their level to communicate effectively with them! And yes, I definitely underestimated them for having such astonishing level of stupidity...

I sent an email to Garmin Taiwan, and they say I need to send the unit back to them for reprogramming and pay usd35 for fright charges!

Bunch of useless at PML still don't have a clue what the issue is!

Anyone has got any idea how to get updated Sing/Mal map for 710? I checked some shops and it costs $249 for SE Asia map! But I do not know if it is compatible with our nuvi 710...

For the lay person, goto: malfreemaps.com

After download the lastest for Garmin Nuvi, follow some instructions and just copy their "map" file into the correct garmin directory. Remeber to save a copy of your existing file should u need to replace it.

Or goto: malsingmaps.com

They also have a recent release given free but u need to do some more work to get this going. Both are suppose to be compatible to all Nuvi's even I had updated my BMW nuvi on the first day I had it..

or read somewhere that some members go to Eastgear (a parallel importert) to buy a working copy of malsingmaps - check out past msgs.. something like $40 including a sc card.. - I don't use this path, hor.. check properly or call them to confirm. I use both malfree and malsing maps.. directly Very easy if u know how to..

Paying .$249 is "crazy" can buy a new hardware nowadays!

What sort of work has to be done to the free update before it can be used on BMW Garmin?
