Usually it's the the speaker cables getting interference from the power cable.

If u r driving a E46, then u should have speaker cables on the passenger side cos the power cable is running on the RHS of the car.

Re: aeroplane noise or z z z z z.............on acceleration

What piggyboy said is correct. The RHS of the E46 has a big power cable running front to back. If your hi-fi installer runs some speaker cables (to your hi-low converter) close to the power cables, there will be some 'aeroplane' sound. What needs to be done is to move these cables to the left hand side of the car or down the center (handbrake area). If the any of the cables need to cross the power cables, make sure it crosses at 90 degrees. As for the speaker cables from your amp to speakers, you can just run anyway cos the high current required to drive your speakers will quench all the induced noise.

Cheers

To be specific, the most sensitive ones are the audio signal cables, meaning the RCA cables more than the speaker cables.

Bro, you are right.. but most installers place the hi-lo converter in the boot left carpet and hence they run some speaker cables from the original cables (Blue and Brown wires) across all corners of the car to the boot. The problem is that hi-lo converters are high impedence (around 600ohms) and hence do not draw the same amount of current from the headunit like speakers do. So induced currents from EMF fields causes a great deal more nosie in the hi-lo output.

The E60 i think also has the power cable running on the driver side. If the battery is in right rear and the slave point in the right front then super high probability that cable in on the right too.

Cheers

I cannot know for sure but usually dependent on the side of the battery location.

Most of the battery for BMW is on the rear right so the cable is normally on the RHS.
