Tech Talk FAQ

Hi guys

Some of us have met up with PML to discuss about the upcoming event and we reckoned that in order to make this event more fruitful, we are going to compile a list of question that u guys may have always wanted to ask but don know correct person to approach.

We will forward the FAQ to them prior to the tech talk and they will explain it during the talk instead of having to hunt the answer during the talk if it proves to be too challenging.

I have to make aware that there will prob be an Q&A session but please note that we are not and will not allow this Q&A to turn into into a "Bash PML" session. PML have graciously hosted this event for our forum and like always, we appreciate this gesture and wants to maintain this codial relationship. I hope that we will in turn make this event more productive by going the more diplomatic route focus on the technical advancement that is currently available and upcoming ones.

However if there is any feedback that anyone wish to highlight, u could put it down as well and we will channel it to them in the most appropiate manner without prejudice to anyside.

Please start the ball rolling if u have anything in mind....

Cheers..

Re: Tech Talk FAQ

Ok here goes:

Is BMW developing a twin clutch gearbox like Audi's DSG, if so when can we expect it?

Is there any chance that we'll see a E90 335d here? i.e is PML/BMW Asia working with LTA to introduce high performance diesel cars in Singapore?

Since steering ratio and weight are adjustable via software for active steering, is it possible for PML techs to customize these adjustments for individuals instead of just going with the settings in the most current CIP release?

Any chance PML will offer M sports steering wheel + SMG paddles retrofit for steptronic cars?

Re: Tech Talk FAQ

Hi Piggy, any possibility for PML to incorporate some sort of accessories sale at the tech talk?

Re: Tech Talk FAQ

1) Warranty.

i'm not sure if this will be the appropriate forum to ask, but i've always wanted to know exactly how our vehicle warranty is structured. i've read on overseas forums that the BMW vehicle warranty actually consists of many small, independent warranties for various systems, i.e. one for the engine, another for bodywork, one other for exhaust, one for electrical components etc... such that defaulting on one of these components does not void the entire vehicle warranty. Is this true?

In addition, there is a Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act in the US (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...s/warranty.htm) that more or less states that the manufacturer has to prove that the aftermarket component was directly responsible for damaging the vehicle before they are entitled to void any warranties. Do we have a similar act in singapore? If not, is BMW prepared to extend the same treatment to its singaporean customers as it does our US counterparts? If no, why not?

I know there are plenty of private arrangements between owners and their CSAs and i've heard many different things said about our warranty, depending on which CSA i speak to, but i would like to clear the air once and for all and know what their official stand is on this issue. If they say it'll be considered on a case-by-case basis, what's the criteria/framework that they'll be using to determine the validity of the warranty claim?

2) BMW paintwork.

Compared to paintwork offered by other manufacturers like Audi or Jaguar, BMW cars, especially the Z4s i've seen, seem to have an extraordinary amount of "orange-peeling". Is this a limitation of their painting process or could it be attributed to the use of water-based paints? Any plans to remedy this or is this the standard of BMW paintwork that we have to accept?

cheers,

louis

p.s. i'm with T6 on the accessories sale. can they include AC Schnitzer stuff too?

Re: Tech Talk FAQ

another question

Brake force display is suppose to be standard on E60s and E90s, do the cars sold here have it, but it's just disabled? Is BFD awaiting approval by LTA?

Re: Tech Talk FAQ

Dear all,

Kindly park at Ikea carpark as PML will not have enough parking lots for the bunch of us, as martmode8850, has kindly pointed out.

Thanks for understanding and hope to see ya all there!
