Intercooler for your BMW 335 TT?

some of you guys have installed Procede etc. with about 50-100HP boost, basiclaly upping the boost sometimes up to 14psi ... about double the stock.

Well if this happened to some other rice cars probably an upgraded intercooler would be installed.

But many of the guys in E90post and even elma, you don't need bigger intercooler izzit?

I just saw the first few adverts fo the 335 intercoolers and was wondering how necessary it is. There are reports during the LA heat wave couple of months ago that their stock 335s underwent limp mode when the stock intercooler heatsoaked in the typical LA highway jams ...

Re: Intercooler for your BMW 335 TT?

U mean oil coolers or intercoolers? I know that in the US, there were a few batches of 335i that didn't come with oil coolers and their cars went into limp mode after driving. BMW reasoning was that the oil coolers were for those who opted for the sports package. But most batches of 335i after March 07 comes with it. I remember Omar being frantic if he had an oil cooler or not!

Btw, there is one intercooler for sale at the moment, Spearco, plug and play unit, about US$1400+.

hint hint...

14psi ~ 1 bar in our hot temps and traffic also not good for performance..and much worse, detonation/reliability. Try and bring down the intake air temps as much as possible..There will only be benefits no down sides....

cheers.

Re: Intercooler for your BMW 335 TT?

I meant Intercoolers. Oil coolers are not that critical.

Intercoolers - in hot weather your air intake charge heats up ... even if 10-15C more or when your stock is heatsoaking, the turbos will heat up more and your compression most probably constant, can actually result in detonation if the timing cannot be retarded enough. In increasing the boost to 14psi any increase of heat is magnified greatly.

if the core too big downside is of course increased lag lah.... but I think (from Evo and GTI world) there are new core designs compensate for the lag, so if you really pay there is no downside.
