Question Servicing Interval

Hi,

We have a 2004 E46 318 which is our 2nd car at home. The last servicing was done in Sept 06 and mileage was 37000km then. The car's mileage now is 47000km. According to the display, the next servicing is only due after another 7000km more.

Should we send the car for servicing since it has been more than a year already? The next servicing should be the Service 2 or Type 2..

Appreciate any advice from the bros here. Thanks!

Re: Servicing Interval

can try doing a normal servicing since u have done 10k, maybe change oil filter n spark plugs while u are at it.
it doesn't hurt to get it serviced earlier or more regularly than as per SOP, just that u would have to spare that 100+ bucks.
all these preventive maintenance will help to keep your engine in better condition for the long term. lastly, its not a must....its up to your budget and how u drive your car

Re: Servicing Interval

thanks sszone.

The car is under 4 yr warranty with PML, which will expire in Aug 2008. Must I go back to PML for the servicing? or it is alright to do it with outside workshop like BVO?

Re: Servicing Interval

you got a four year warranty? wow...

there was a technical bulletin issued by bmw sometime back... it says either 25000km or one year for oil service which ever is earlier... remember my se told me that when i collected the car...

now the E90 seems to have the service intervals halved... not sure if they have some data for the E46 to do it now on the E90 valvetronics... of course they would not tell us as their findings may be inconclusive... there is another tread discussing this...

47000km should be inspection I for you... a little bit more work for pml and of course they will charge you for it...

Re: Servicing Interval

Thanks for the replies and advice guys.

The car was bought from PPSL under the premium selection programme, and comes with 1 year extended warranty on top of the standard 3 years warranty, which is why it is 4 years.

I called PML 2 days ago, and left a message for their technical adviser to call me back. Am still waiting for them to return my call after 2 days. Gave up on them....

Will go down to BVO to change the engine oil, spark plugs etc these few days.
