PML Regular Servicing for new BMW

Hi,

Currently considering trading in my old car for a new conti and hence doing some homework on BMW.

Bumped into BMW website and realise that they offer 3yr/100km (or 90km) warrantly. However, apparently, the regular service (eg, 10km interval for Jap car) doesn't come free of charge. Is my understanding correct? One seems to have to buy a 3yr/90km "Service Inclusive" plan at abut $4k. Is this a must to sign up with this maintainence package with PML for regular servicing?

Also, what does this package offer in terms of say, frequency of free servicing? Heard that it is 25km as compared to 10km.

Appreciate current BM owners to share there experience and view as to whether it is a must to sign up with this package (so have to factor in as a cost of owning) and whether they think this package is good enough as far as the regular servicing need is required for owning a new BM.

On their website, there is alos this "Interval Based Service Package" in addition to the "Service Inclusive" package. It seems confusing far as regular servicing is concerned. What is the difference between them and is signing up both equals to having a comprehensive service package for a new BM like those free regular ones that come with other brands.

Please enlighten

Re: PML Regular Servicing for new BMW

In my opinion, you can save the 4k.

PML claim their oil change can last 20km, dont believe that. Its not true, no engine oil in the world can do that. yes, brand new car, 20km, no problem, afterthat you engine will loses power because the metals inside got rub off too much.

first oil change should be 1-5km, because they use mineral or thick oil, then change to synthetic.
you can check their package oil change, inspection I and inspection 2, 20km, 40km 60km. In between them, you will do probably 2 oil change only, every 10km. You work that out. Also you should know your driving mileage...to see if it is worthwhile..

I would recommend you R2D workshop, look for Rodney. He is a passionate mechanics for BMW. He will conduct details checking of your car, recommend you good stuff for your car... You can check our his site sponsor.

I bought a aftermarket 318i, within the warranty period I did a oil change at PML at 16km, they charge about 200 plus to 300, if i can remember.

I guess PML is just following the driving in other conti countries where the drive is long. but in singapore its stop / Go driving. this will quickly wear down the oil.

i think PML wants your car to break down around 3 yrs time, so u can trade in for a new one.

Re: PML Regular Servicing for new BMW

Got my 320i late Feb, and happily driving it. Don't really care the PML service and do it the Jap car way - Went J4C for first oil change after 2k, and just another oil change after 7k. The ride is now so smooth and (touch wood) completely trouble free for past 6 months! But wife complaining not enough room and "asking" me to "consider" changing to a 7-seater liao.....that'll rob me off the BMW driving pleasure....sob..sob..

.

Hi,
Just as a matter of interest,
I did my second oil change at 56,000km..

first one at 25,000km , and topped up some oil in between..
having said that, i think it does not apply to all the models..
Currently driving 2006 E65..

now the oil change i can believe, what i cant believe are the brakes..
at 56,000km i changed the pads AND the discs!

Amazing!

in the recent batch of cars, they have service counters at 12,000km intervals instead of the 25,000km the older batches would have.

I have the service inclusive for my car, and honestly for my driving pattern... it isnt worth it. I know of people who drive so hard that they change their brake pads and discs yearly... now if you ask me... that's worth getting the service inclusive.

although my car is coming 2 yrs old now, i do a oil change every 12000km right from the start. At 25,000km its covered under Service Inclusive, and the in between I pay for them myself.

that being said, ask yourself. would u spend $4k in brake pads, oil change and wiper blades in 3 yrs. coz bulbs and engine gasket aren't covered in the Service Inclusive so you'll still have to pay for those yourself.
