Re: Bribing M'sia Police ?? READ THIS

I have also been questioned for carrying too much fruits into Malaysia, to sell and profit. Hence I am equally sure they could take yr $$ and then after that charge u for bribing. So they earn $50 in bribe + $100 from their taokay. As such I have absolutely no respect what so ever for these SOAGs. Of cos I am not complaining if I do exceed speed limits and pay only $50, which I have done(so do many others). BTW, some of u must have heard their offer of free bikes and $$ to street racers if they can catch 30 thieves? |

I dunt geddit... you're making a fuss cos the fella offering the bribe is likely to get prosecuted due to this new carrot dangled to them?
So all's fine and dandy if the driver offers the bribe (which is subsequently accepted) and then gets away scot-free? ![]() In the first place, if there weren't any bribe-givers, would there be bribe takers? Just a tot...

Re: Bribing M'sia Police ?? READ THIS
In any mismanaged country, there is bound to be abuses of power by the first level law enforcers. The petty sense of my previous sentence includes all ASEAN countries with the exception of Singapore.
But this mismanagement of Malaysia has brought us 600 miles of north-south highway, relatively well maintained except for the part just south of Malacca, and a CHEAP way to go at 200-240km/h without going to jail. With the Audi Magnetic Ride, Merc Active Body Control, and BMW's Dynamic Drive suspension, this is even easier now. I can take it if they prosecute me for fruits, and if you're sore about arbitrary prosecution, just break the law to make it worth it. Because, in no other place in the world can you travel at 200-240, without risk of jail, and on relatively good roads. That's one boat I don't wanna rock. BUT yes, these people make one scared of arbitrary prosecution. I've had the same feeling, until I now have the knowledge that even if I get arbitrarily prosecuted, I may be able to get out of it. So, I'm not totally qualified to comment on your frustration... Anyway, be confident and talk to the cop like a brother, not an adversary. Everybody's out to make a buck, so just try to understand his position. You may be pleasantly surprised. Quote:

Re: Bribing M'sia Police ?? READ THIS
I was once flagged down by the police up north and was driving at a speed of 100km/h cos I was notified by a friend which is about 30km further tat a road block was spotted.
What happen next is ridiculous, :- I told the police I was only doing 100Km/h which is within the speed limit, he keep bragging and say I was travelling 120+. When he know he can't get away with the "extra money", he said : "BUT YOUR CAR CAN HIT ABOVE THAT, COS YOURS GOT TWIN TURBO" I was driving a VR4 zzzzzzzz.

Nah Beh.....if you were driving a Gallardo, they tell u that u did 200km/h eventhough u only did 80km/h....this is called 'general knowledge' or in mathematical terminology 'the laws of approximation' or in beng terminology 'arga arga' . Thanks for seconding my opinion. |

Re: Bribing M'sia Police ?? READ THIS
I am thankful that as a singaporean, we have the NSH to do some speeding, pay some toll to cover this "usage" and then reach a world class F1 circuit. all within easy reach. In any other developed countries, I'll long be in jail by now. So i do not complain about the amounts of the unofficial tolls I have paid all these years.
However in the real world, if the above was to happen, then there will also be other inconveniences that come along with it. For eg, u kena caught just coz u are spore-plate, even if you did not speed. Or when you get coerced to pay a bit of money. or after u pay, u realise u were still officially clocked in, and all sorts of "injustice". But it's all part of a package. You cannot expect the first part, without also experiencing the 2nd part. pls be realistic, guys. If one day, the whole country straightens up, I'll be very sad as a car enthusiast. (but happy for them lah, it's a good step fwd) So what I'm trying to say is, be realistic, and thankful, and dont complain too much. |

that $300 rate only for the Siakap operation. Normal rate is 75-150, but the details are in dispute because of the attempted Malaysian police discounting of the fines recently.

Re: Bribing M'sia Police ?? READ THIS
Its a simple process
The Malaysia goverment does not implement a points system. I never pay the "coffee money". I have businesses in Malaysia and I feel that I would like the corupt practises to eliminated one day, thus my personal opinion is that I would rather pay the standard fine, allow the money to enter the system and hopefully help move and eliminate the process of corupt practises. My theory is similar to what others have said here. If you dont expect them to be clean and upright, you shouldnt expect them to accept bribes in the first place. If you do engage and participate in corrupt practises, you cannot expect them to withhold to the same moral and financial standard all the time. eg, the time one spends to neg with an officer, is just to annoying, esp when they are trying to adjust their "rates" these days. I was stopped a few months back. By the time I got my ticket and left, the M class behind me was still bargaining. I fully encourage drivers from taking the correct route. When I travel with my friends, I tell them to do so. I even volunteer to collect the tickets and pay out to relevant departments on their behalf. Point is that if you want to step into dirt and play with them...dont blame anyone if it hits the fan and gets everywhere...
