BMW to launch new “i” sub-brand on Today

BMW will host a press conference today, February 21, in Germany where automobile journalists are expecting them to announce the a new sub-brand. This new “i” brand will put a badge to all the future BMW electric vehicles. This is in line with BMW's plan to become the world’s leader in premium electric vehicles. The new sub-brand will be the umbrella of maximum sustainability. Sustainability will start from the production process, starting with the first supplier, through to component recycling at the end of the vehicle life cycle, sustainability based on the three principles of eco-friendliness, economic efficiency and social compatibility.
Van Hooydonk said in a recent interview: “The sub-brand offers a chance to innovate as well as feature BMW’s customary design quality and detailing.”
The first vehicle to be a part of this sub-brand is the Megacity, a two-door, four-seater car measuring around 157 inches. The BMW Megacity is powered by a lithium-ion battery with 35 kWh of capacity placed below the vehicle’s floor where power is sent to the rear wheels through a rear-mounted 150 horsepower electric motor. Driving range is expected to top at 100 miles and top speed at 95 mph. More vehicles are expected to be released in the future following the above stated principles.
