Photos - 1969 Bertone BMW 2800 Spicup
One of the most unique models of BMW is the 1969 Bertone BMW 2800 Spicup. Designed based on the BMW 2800 by world renowned Nuccio Bertone -- who also made cars for Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Ford.
This model was first displayed at the 1969 Geneva Motor Show. But after being displayed, BMW did not find any use for it and did not get a good reception so they sold it. BMW thought this was already lost, until it was discovered under the care of a car collector in Netherlands back in 2008. After being sold to a Belgian car enthusiast, it under went restoration. Now, it is displayed at the BMW Munich Museum.
The term Spicup is “Spider” and “Coupe” combined. It also has a roof with two panels which slides into a T-shaped bar. The interior is mostly colored green and yellow. The silver details were hand painted.
