E65/E66 owners - Fuel smell after pumping full tank

Can you guys smell petrol after you pump a full tank? First time I pumped I could smell for half a day. It was because the pump attendant was trying to pump more than auto stop. I did it again the 2nd time and it was no smell as I let it stop and waited a few seconds before pulling the nozzle out. Third time now and I told the attendant to pump auto stop. I am not sure If she did or not but I could smell petrol again. I noticed that there are overflow holes on the bottom part of the bigger inlet, meaning if any petrol comes out after you pull out the nozzle, it will most likely go into that drainage pipe for overfilled petrol. I checked my friend's Audi and it has the holes only on top, meaning unless there is a lot of petrol that has overflowed out, then it will flow out.

So my question is it is because of this design that makes it very easy for the petrol to end up being in the overflow pipe because if you pull out the nozzle with some petrol, I would assume it would get into the overflow pipe quite easily? Anyone else notice this happening on their 7 series quite frequently??

Should not have.... did you do anything to the fuel system such as replaced the fuel pump recently?

No. Nothing done as I just bought the car. Weird is when inpumped it myself there was no smell. Guess need to do that a few times to make sure there is nothing wrong but just the pump attendants constantly pumping more than auto stop.

This may not be relevant... But just to share my experience from my previous japanese ride...
Same thing - every time I filled up the fuel tank, there's a strong petrol smell in the cabin. Subsequently, brought it back to my mechanic who recently replaced my fuel pump, realised that the cover which is located underneath the rear seat was not seated properly. A slight re-adjustment and re-fastening of the bolts solved the problem...

Ouch. I smell petrol too after a full tank yesterday, But it did went away after a short drive. hmm wonder should I lower the windows after a refuel from now onwards.

Could be just the tank O-seal need replacement .
It's under the rear passenger seats

if the smell occurs again i will have to send it in to pml to fix it. could not really survive with the windows up.
