better fuel economy my ass, when i drive my missus's car, i for sure cane the life outta it, no economy at all, hahahahaha. Manuals are for weekend cars for me anyway. Even then my choice of weekend car wouldnt be an exotic. Can by a Kenworth, 16 gears, can change to your hearts content!

For me, I only know there is 1 Z4, 1 E60, 5 E46, 1 E39, 1 E87, 1 E90 & 3 E46 M3.....

Don't think manuals are for SPEED OF SHIFTING. They're for `more involved driving' and `better fuel economy' now. Since DSG and torque converter lock autos came out, manuals are SLOW. BUT they're sure FUN and gives you a lot to do while you may get bored with the autos.

True but those who are into manuals will say autos are bored. I am not bored with the autos cause they gave perfect shift and timing and esp in this dickhead country where ppl hog the right lane, you really need to shift fast, giving u enough time to brake. Of course, good manual drivers can do that as well but how many ? I am not a reallyt good manual driver but given the car and its performance, say like the Lotus, i will force myself to be best in the manual. For a BMW, the steps is more than sifficient for my liking. Even the M3, technically manual in most sense, still natively acts like an auto though the jerks in auto mode makes you feel like you are driving a manual which is why the SMG system still is flawed by pleasure when driven on the auto mode.

I was seriously toying with the idea of buying a LC1 M5, but put that idea away when faced with the SMG-only option for this beast. At least the US market gets to choose between the 6 sp manual as a no-cost option to the SMG for their M5's.
I'd much rather buy the E92 M3 which will only be available with 6 sp manual at launch date, until BMW introduce their robotised dual clutch DKG next year.
The M3 will be way cheaper than the M5 and much more fun to drive. Especially out of warranty, and the SMG packs up due to one too many hits on the LC button.
Give me a manual any day!
