Smile EBC Red Stuff Ceramic Pads

Guys, I am posting this on behalf of UM2.

UM2 is offering to bring in Red Stuff Ceramic Pads for you cars at about $240 per axle set excl fitting. The Red Stuff Ceramic pads use copper in the friction compound formulation to help reduce the amount of heat build up in the pad when auto cars come to a stop. It is this heat build up that does the damage to the rotors. The Green Stuff pads with their kelvar compound offers a better grip on initial application of the brakes compared to the Red Stuff Ceramic but it also runs a lot hotter as Kelvar is also a good thermal insulator.

The Red Stuff Ceramic does produce some dust but it is about half of the original BMW pads.

I personally have used EBC Greens in my VW Passat and they never failed me. The only issue that i had was that after a hard stop for the lights, i would apply the hand brake while leaving the car in D. This allowed the pads to ease away from the discs and reduce heat soak damage.

Is anyone interested?

Cheers

$240 per axle set means a pair rite?

How abt the wear rate on the rotors using these pads?

Thanx

Re: EBC Red Stuff Ceramic Pads

Yes Bro, $240 for 4 pads for the front. Another $240 for the rear. The exact price cannot confirm now cos shipping gonna be shared.

According to CP, the Red Stuff Ceramics are also gentle on the discs. Expect 2-3 sets of pads for each set of discs.

There is 1 full set on the way here.... for an Orient Blue 320i.......wink wink.... but the owner paying close to $650 ( dumb huh???)

Cheers bro...

Bro
1000F is 540'C
1380F is 750'C

u is the co-efficient of friction. usual pads run from 0.3-0.4u. u is calculated from the amount of rotational friction force the surfaces can generate in proportion to the clamping force.

Cheers dude

Re: EBC Red Stuff Ceramic Pads

Think the formula is
C = 5/9 * (F-32)

1000F shud be ard 537C
while
1380 is ard 748C

Oh yes...

why the higher temp pads has less U?

Comparing the two, which has better grip?

Re: EBC Red Stuff Ceramic Pads

The grippier pad is the green stuff. Those buggers really give you blue black marks on your shoulders where the seat belts are. But ultimately they are a little hard to modulate. I drove a friend's airtrack turbo with red stuff ceramics. I think they are easier to modulate before a corner. If you track then go for the red stuff ceramics.
